3M Safety & Security Films

When Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh blew up a federal building in 1995, the bomb blast shattered the windows of 258 buildings within a 16 block radius.  It was these glass shards that accounted for the deaths of 5% of people and caused a mass of casualties.

Cue 3M Safety & Security Film, a range of films designed to hold glass together during explosions and bomb blasts, destructive weather, and smash and grab burglaries.  Had these buildings had 3M Safety & Security film in place, the damage caused by flying glass shards would have been significantly reduced.

3M Safety and Security Films are patented multi-layer films with a superior strength adhesive system. They also have unique tear resistant properties and provide a measure of security by impeding attempts to break the glass, delaying entry from smash and grab burglaries, and providing additional time for escape and/or reaction by authorities. Some versions of these films also provide sun control, which minimize harmful UV rays, controls temperature inside the building, and saves on energy costs.

The range varies in thickness depending on application and desired result, which makes 3M Safety and Security films ideal not just for government buildings, council offices and police stations, but for any glass windows near pedestrian traffic, commercial buildings, retail, and for domestic security.  You can even get a graffiti proof version, perfect for schools and bus shelters.

When applied by Licensed Installers, 3M Safety and Security Films come with a 12 year warranty and all the 3M 400 Series Ultra Safety & Security films pass the Impact Component of AS/NZS 2208:1996 at Grade ‘A’ Level – which means they are damn tough!
